Europfast Int. Spedition GmbH delivers on its responsibilities by introducing the environmental
management system DIN EN ISO 14001:2009 for sustainable management in a healthy environment and
is therefore successfully certified.
Starting with the international conference in Rio in 1992 the issue of sustainability has assumed
increasing importance and has emerged as one of the hottest topics since the IPCC's publications on climate change in 2007.
Sustainable development refers to a long term perspective built on 3 pillars:
- Economic considerations and shareholder value,
- having regard to the finite nature of our environment's resources and
- displaying (corporate) social responsibility.
Corporate success that goes beyond the ephemeral can only be achieved by
taking account of these 3 factors in a balanced way.
Many companies have dedicated themselves to sustainable management practices and endeavour to
master the challenge of striking a balance between economic success, social reponsibility and
ecological compatibility.
ISO 14001 was published in 1996 and (in conjunction with EMAS from 1993) provides the first ever
comprehensible and substantive definition of environmental management. It is an environmental
management system which systematically enshrines protection of the environment in management.
Environmental aspects can thus be factored into all routine tasks and company policy decisions.
The focus is put on management processes and organisational structures. ISO 14001 allows a
company to prove that it is behaving in an environmentally responsible manner. It helps to
provide businesses with specific and systematic support in developing the environmental
management system according to a globally recognised standard. This gives businesses an
effective tool that they can use to systematically record environmental pollution and
continuously improve the environmental situation. Environmental hazards are assessed and
emergency plans devised to mitigate incidents. ISO 14000 requires of course compliance with all
the relevant enviromental regulations. This is ensured by means of regular inspections by
environmental auditors working for an independent certification body. Individual results are
not made available to company outsiders. ISO 14000 is an environmental management system
specially for companies that have already put in place a quality management system and which
now want systematically to capture and continuously improve areas of the business pertaining
to the environment as well. ISO 14001 defines requirements an environmental management system
must meet and prescribes elements for certification.
